I must have lived a deprived life in the dessert department as I didn’t try Banoffee Pie until I was well into my 30’s. While on holiday in England, our friend asked me if I would like it for dessert. Puzzled I asked her what it was and she told me banana, caramel and cream. Only a crazy person would say no. I couldn’t believe I had never had the pleasure of the experience before that day and vowed to take it home with me to Australia (the recipe, not the actual dish – don’t think customs would have been too happy with that).
It has taken me a while to get around to it, but oh so worth the wait. I made a few and shared them around with the family, my daughter picked up almost the whole thing on the spoon and it disappeared before I could say ‘manners’! The next morning my friend came over and we shared one for breakfast. Disgusting I know but it is the best time of day to have a sugar overload when you have hours to work it off. We declared just how terrible an act that was, and when she came over the next day after the school run, we shared the last one. What a way to break the fast!
